Vang Vieng Escape

Pick up at your hotel at 8.30 PM and transfer to Vang Vieng which is located about 150 kilometers away from Vientiane. Vang Vieng is a beautiful little mountain town lies on the Nam Song river bank with the most notable feature of the surrounding karst landscape. This place is also home to many of Laos’s ethnic groups including Kmou, Hmong…with their typical culture and tradition.

Along the way, you will have a stop to visit the archaeological site of Vang Xang which was built during the Mone-Khmer Empire between the 8th and 11th centuries and then another stop to visit a hill tribe village of Hmong for local interaction and capture the interesting moments of local life.

Upon arrival in Vang Vieng, check in the hotel and then have lunch. This afternoon you will take a brief orientation tour of the town. The rest of the day is free at your leisure to explore this quaint, peaceful town. Dinner and overnight in hotel in Vang Vieng.

Your day begins with breakfast in Vang Vieng. You will then get a transfer of 20 kilometers to PhaTang village north of Vang Vieng. Here our experienced guides will give you basic paddle instructions before entering the Nam Song River for kayaking.

Paddle down the river for 30 minutes and then stop at Tham Sang village to visit the Elephant Cave which is surrounded by vast, lush vegetation. Inside the cave, you’ll see the naturally formed large “Elephant Stone” – after which the cave is named – along with many Buddha statues that date back centuries.

After, you will trek to another cave. This 200m long tubing cave gives you the opportunity to swim inside and explore it by tube with lots of fun.

Walk back to Tham Sang Village for lunch and after that, in the remaining afternoon, we’ll take a kayak down the Nam Song River so that you can watch the sunset behind the mountains. Back to Vang Vieng you will see marvelous scenery of mountains, forests, villages, and fields. You will have also the opportunity to stop at one or a number of the riverfront bars which will give you the chance to rope swing, “zip wire” and cliff jump into the river below or simply sit, relax and enjoy the views. Back to Vang Vieng in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight in hotel in Vang Vieng.

After breakfast, you will visit famous caves around Vang Vieng which include Tham Xang, Tham Hoy, and Tham Loup. Lunch is arranged at Ban Vieng Samay.

After lunch, drive back to Vientiane with a stop to visit the traditional salt-making site at Ban Keun and continue to Dong Makkhai market, known for its large selection of insects, where local people used to sell wild animals. Back in Vientiane in the late afternoon.
